about
It's funny how things come back to haunt you.
When I was first dabbling with composition in my youth I created a project entitled 'Sea of Mind,' which consisted of three parts. Apart from the obviously crappy title I made a very strange decision while putting these parts together. Part 2 and 3 (the ones featured in this track) were orchestral, whereas Part 1 was an odd mixture of jazz, rock, and folk themes.
After rediscovering the somewhat basic sheet music for this project (a testament to my inexperience at that time, but also to my musical ambition) I decided to do the sensible adult thing and snap Part 1 off my old project like a diseased toenail, instead choosing to treat the remaining parts as what they truly were - my very first attempt at a piano concerto.
Due to the bizarre and messy origins of this project I have decided to call it Piano Concerto Zero, as it is a deformed Quasimodo-esque beast that I am figuratively setting free from my attic to hobble off and do whatever hobbling Quasimodo-esque beasts do these days. In short, it lies in a peculiar limbo between being an actual piano concerto, and being a piano concerto by intention, so I feel the title is justified, and fuck those who think otherwise.
Please enjoy.
